Greetings, gentlemen. There are a few things I’ve never tried in my life: climbing a mountain, flying in a hot air balloon, or riding a camel in the desert. I’ve also never worn a Prada fragrance for a whole week, but this week, I decided to do just that and let you guys know about my experience.

You know the drill, guys; before I write any review, I will ‘field test’ the fragrance. This involves wearing it in different settings and activities, from a casual day at the office to a night out (or in), to give you a rounded view rather than just spraying and smelling it for a few minutes. I’ll also examine how the fragrance evolves, its sillage (how far the scent carries), and its longevity.

Let’s explore the original Prada Luna Rossa EDT (Eau de Toilette). This 2012 fragrance stands out with its unique blend of citrus and aromatic notes, created by the talented perfumer Daniela Andrier.

Here we go!

Appearance and presentation

The bottle looks dull and uninspired, like a typical designer fragrance. It’s smart and compact, but besides the brand name, it has very little, which makes it stand out on a crowded shelf. Yes, I know it’s harsh, but this is my opinion.

To be quite frank, I think they could have put a bit more effort into it. They know people will buy it based on the brand’s good reputation, but relying solely on that seems a little lazy to me.

Pricing

It costs the amount you would expect to pay for a mid-range designer fragrance, which is reasonable considering its offerings.

When it comes to getting the best deal, your best bet is almost always the discounters — especially when they’re running coupon codes. And the one that’s never let me down is FragranceX.

They ship worldwide, they only deal in authentic stock, and they’ve got a solid 30-day return policy, which keeps things risk-free.

Prices do move around (sometimes daily, especially during holiday sales), so it’s always worth checking the current deal. 👇

The notes

Top Notes – Lavender, Bitter Orange,

Middle Notes – Mint, Clary Sage

Base Notes – Ambrette (Musk Mallow)

Initial thoughts on the scent

So, we have lavender, mint, and ambrette in the main lineup. It comes across as a clean, fresh-out-the-shower kind of scent reminiscent of a crisp, cool breeze on a sunny day. The mint adds a refreshing touch, while the ambrette provides a subtle musky undertone.

Prada is well known for making these types of fragrances, and this is no exception. It’s a scent that’s not just pleasant but comfortable to wear. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but it gets the job done.

The only downside is that (for me) it has a slight ‘mall scent’ vibe, which I would describe as a generic, mass-appealing scent you might encounter in a shopping mall. However, it’s not apparent enough to deter me from considering a purchase.

I’ve put my nose to enough fragrances now to realise that many of them (especially designer fragrances of this genre) tend to smell the same. Luckily, this one has enough uniqueness to prevent it from fading into the background as bland and generic.

Compliments

This fragrance will undoubtedly garner positive attention because it’s very likeable and inoffensive. It’s a safe bet and could efficiently work as a signature scent for someone who wants to keep it subtle. The wife was also a fan of this one. It’s a fragrance that makes you feel appreciated for your good taste.

If you’re looking for something more daring, Prada Luna Rossa will probably fall short of your expectations.

Performance

It has a solid opening but tends to fade quickly after that, which is a shame because it smells delicious. I think it could do with a little more muscle behind it. You’ll get roughly 4 hours of longevity, which will project for about an hour. The sillage is moderate, not too overpowering, but not too subtle either. It’s a bit disappointing regarding the longevity, but there you go.

If you want something more powerful, consider Luna Rossa Extreme, a more spicy, woody, and longer-lasting fragrance. It’s a bolder version of the original Luna Rossa, with intensified notes. Sadly, it has been discontinued, although a few are still floating around if you go hunting. Having said that, I would be cautious of paying over the odds for it.

By the way, I cover the different fragrances you can buy in my free cheat sheet (hint: some are much stronger than others). It might save you much time (and heartache) on your next purchase! 😉

Want to try this fragrance on your skin?

If you’d prefer to sample it first, these are my two favourite
and most reliable places to get authentic decants:

When and where?

This is the kind of scent you can confidently wear anywhere at any time—an all-rounder if you will. It is well suited for casual day wear and perfectly acceptable in the office. Its versatility ensures you’re always appropriately scented, no matter the occasion. It’s like having a reliable companion who adapts to your needs.

There’s no need to overthink this one.

Should you buy?

So there you have it, gentlemen. This comes close if you’re looking for a one-size-fits-all type of fragrance (if there is such a thing). It would be perfect for the guy who only wishes to own a few fragrances and prefers to keep things simple. As we know, sometimes less is more.

The only thing that lets it down somewhat is its short lifespan on the skin, but it makes up for it in other areas. I still recommend giving it a try. Remember to let me know your experiences in the comments below.

If you are in the market for a fresh all-rounder similar to Luna Rossa, check out my other reviews on Nautical Voyage, Coach for Men, or Polo Sport—I thoroughly recommend all of these.
