Greetings, gentleman. This week, I have been wearing Coach for Men, a medium-range fragrance that is very popular amongst the masses for various reasons that we’ll get into. It’s not a fragrance that I would naturally gravitate towards, not because it’s terrible but because it doesn’t stand out for me or cater to my tastes.
The newly released Coach Green EDT might have been more my style, given my preference for green scents. But this blog isn’t about me; it’s about YOU. So, I’m here to share my personal journey with the original Coach for Men, hoping it helps you make an informed decision.
Coach for Men is considered a Woody Aromatic fragrance, launched in 2017 and composed by Anne Flipo and Bruno Jovanovic. Both perfumers have had some decent releases under their belts in recent years that you most likely would have encountered before. But is this one any good and, most importantly, worth your dosh?
Here’s my humble opinion…
Appearance and presentation
Let me start by saying I like this smart little bottle design. It reminds me in some ways of the Gentleman Givenchy line as it’s simple, clean and to the point, reflecting the scent in many ways.
It has the Coach Horse and Cart logo on the front (a great logo, by the way), which evokes an old-world, traditional, gentlemanly feel.
Coach, the brand, is old school and has been around since 1941. It started as an American family-run business that made wallets and billfolds. It expanded into the world of fragrance, ladies’ handbags and other such items sometime after this, of course.
Price and where to buy
This moderately priced fragrance offers a decent return on investment, especially compared to other designer fragrances. You can easily find it for sale online and in-store, making it a convenient and worthwhile addition to your collection.
It’s a smart buy for those who want quality without breaking the bank.
When it comes to getting the best deal, your best bet is almost always the discounters — especially when they’re running coupon codes. And the one that’s never let me down is FragranceX.
They ship worldwide, they only deal in authentic stock, and they’ve got a solid 30-day return policy, which keeps things risk-free.
Prices do move around (sometimes daily, especially during holiday sales), so it’s always worth checking the current deal. 👇

The note list
Top Notes – Pear, Kumquat, Bergamot, Lavender, Grapefruit
Middle Notes – Cardamom, Geranium, Coriander
Base Notes – Ambergris, Suede, Amberwood, Haitian Vetiver
The Scent
Despite my reservations, it’s actually quite lovely. My first impressions are that it is fresh, airy, and light, borrowing many familiar elements from good old Dior Sauvage. It has a robust citrusy opening with a prominent bergamot note. The dry down is primarily comprised of synthetic woods.
Coach for men is a generic scent, but to give credit where it’s due, it’s a good one. It’s not unique or complex; however, the ingredients blend well, making wearing this an enjoyable experience for sure.
Like most designer fragrances, Coach for Men is a safe, easy choice for any man who wants to smell good without much of a fuss. It’s a reliable option, but it’s not going to turn heads. So, if you’re looking for a straightforward, everyday scent, this could be the one for you.
Want to try this fragrance on your skin?
If you’d prefer to sample it first, these are my two favourite
and most reliable places to get authentic decants:

Performance
Unfortunately, one of Coach for Men’s downsides is its performance. It only lasts a little while, and I would suggest there is room for improvement in this area. Don’t get me wrong; it’s not awful, but it could be much better.
There are cheaper alternatives such as Free Time and Nautica Voyage, which smell just as good and blow this right out of the water in terms of sillage and longevity.
It will project moderately for about an hour at best, and then it will quickly fade to a skin scent.
When to wear
It’s an all-rounder, although freshies like Coach for Men are best suited for day wear in the warmer weather.
Where to wear
Again, it is an all-rounder but particularly well suited for casual settings and officewear. You could, of course, dress it up more formally if you wanted to, but there are much better options for that kind of thing, in my view.

Compliments
I know I said it’s not a unique fragrance, but it WILL garner plenty of positive attention, particularly from the ladies who seem to like this one. This should give you a confidence boost when wearing it.
The wife made three comments about it in one evening, which speaks for itself.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Inexpensive and good value for money
- Fresh, airy and pleasant
- Overall crowd-pleaser
- Can be worn on any occasion or time of year
- A good blend of citruses and woods
- Inoffensive and great for daywear in the office
Cons
- Performance below average
- Unoriginal and somewhat generic
- Does not stand out compared to others
- Harsh synthetic opening
Should you buy
So there you have it, gentleman. Every man needs at least one ‘freshie’ in their fragrance collection, and Coach for Men would be a solid choice. It’s good value for money and will satisfy a man looking for an everyday staple that can be worn with little thought.
If you’re willing to spend a bit more, I recommend a quick look at Aqua Di Gio or Lacoste White, which offer a similar scent profile (as in they’re also both freshies) but with more style.
