Greetings, gentlemen; I have been wearing Montblanc Legend for the last week, and what a treat it has been. I came across this little gem ten years ago when it was the signature scent of an old buddy of mine, so this one takes me back. It was released in 2011 and composed by Olivier Pescheux and Celine Perdriel.
It is considered an Aromatic Fougere fragrance for men. According to the composers, the notes are “filled with contrasts” that evoke strength, tenderness, tradition, and modernity (whatever that is supposed to mean). We’ll get into all that in a bit, don’t worry.
Let’s jump right into the critical aspects of Montblanc Legend that you’re likely curious about. By the end of this review, you’ll hopefully have a clear picture of what to expect from this fragrance.
Appearance and presentation
If you weren’t aware, Montblanc is a German company as old as the hills. It was well-known for making luxury fountain pens before expanding into the world of fragrances and other products.
All of their fragrance bottles share a standard design, with subtle differences in colour and shape. The Montblanc Legend bottle, for instance, is sleek and masculine, resembling a fancy fountain pen in the form of a bottle (if that makes any sense at all). Well, at least that’s how it comes across to me.
Its simplicity adds to its appeal, making it a great addition to any collection. I give it a thumbs-up in that regard.
Price and where to buy
Montblanc Legend, a fragrance that has been making waves since its release over a decade ago, has unfortunately been riding a price rollercoaster, it would seem. I remember when I could snag this fragrance for a steal—almost half of what it is now. But alas, those days are a distant memory, I’m afraid.
It’s not silly money just yet, but it does lean towards the top end of what I would be willing to pay for a designer fragrance.
When it comes to getting the best deal, your best bet is almost always the discounters — especially when they’re running coupon codes. And the one that’s never let me down is FragranceX.
They ship worldwide, they only deal in authentic stock, and they’ve got a solid 30-day return policy, which keeps things risk-free.
Prices do move around (sometimes daily, especially during holiday sales), so it’s always worth checking the current deal. 👇

The Note Breakdown
Top Notes – Lavender, Pineapple, Bergamot, Lemon Verbena
Middle Notes – Red Apple, Dried Fruits, oak moss, Geranium, Coumarin, Rose
Base Notes – Tonka Bean, Sandalwood
How does it smell?
At the top, you’ll encounter a unique blend of fruity, clean, fresh notes with just the right amount of sweetness. However, it’s the lavender that is clearly the true star of the show here. Its bold presence makes it the note you’ll likely notice the most.
As the fragrance matures into its dry-down phase, the woody and floral notes start to blossom, maintaining the initial fruity sweetness in a well-balanced manner, enhanced by the tonka bean. It’s akin to a navy blue suit, a symbol of masculine consistency and reliability that never fails to impress.
My buddy I mentioned earlier, a devoted Arsenal FC fan, once drew a parallel between Mont Blanc Legend and ex-footballer Ian Wright, a reliable top goal scorer who always delivers. You know it will bring them results every time.

Comparisons
If you’ve ever put your nose to Fierce by Abercrombie & Finch, you will notice that it’s more or less the same thing as Legend, and that is because, well, Legend pretty much ripped it off. Now, that wouldn’t be the first time a Montblanc fragrance smells suspiciously similar to another, and yes, I am looking at you, Explorer (Aventus clone). Check out my full review here for more on that one.
But let’s be honest, it’s a good rip-off and a tad cheaper than Fierce. If you ever find yourself deciding between the two, I would say Legend is a much better buy overall.
Furthermore, Parfum de Marly’s Percival and Legend often find themselves in the same conversation, although they’re not as similar. As a niche brand, Percival obviously has the upper hand in terms of quality over Legend, offering a more complex and long-lasting scent and using higher-quality ingredients. However, this does come with a much higher price tag. If money isn’t an issue for you and you value these aspects, I would go straight for Percival.
Compliments
Receiving compliments is absolutely no issue, as it smells fantastic, masculine, and sexy. The people around you will pick up on it, and it will be appreciated.
Don’t get me wrong; I wouldn’t say it’s a showstopper, but it will still turn some heads nonetheless. The wife also loves this one.
Where to wear
You can wear this just about anywhere: at work, evening out, casually, at the gym—you name it, it’ll work. It’s got to be one of the most versatile fragrances I’ve ever owned, which is one of the best things about this fragrance. I’ve primarily been wearing it at work and home, and it has been a hit with everyone so far.
When to wear
Again, this is an all-season fragrance. Usually, I would suggest an ‘ideal’ time of year to wear it, but honestly, that doesn’t really apply to Legend. This fragrance performs well in both warm and cool weather, adapting to your body heat and the environment. Whether you’re wearing it on a hot summer day or a chilly winter evening, you can trust that Montblanc Legend will do the business.

Performance
Montblanc Legend’s performance is solidly average, in my opinion. It’s not the longest-lasting fragrance out there, but it’s far from the shortest-lived. You can expect around 6 hours of longevity, with a moderate projection of 2.5-3 hours. As with all the best ones, it’s a scent to be discovered, not announced.
Should you buy?
This isn’t the most unique or daring fragrance you’ll ever put your nose to, nor is it an awe-inspiring performer, but It’s still damn good for what it is. It is designed to be a signature scent and fits that category perfectly.
I would argue that this is, without a doubt, a solid buy. If you are generally not fussed about fragrances but need a safe bet that will not let you down, I recommend buying this. It’s a staple in any man’s arsenal that will add an extra touch of sharpness to your overall appearance.
Remember, every football team needs an Ian Wright, just like every man needs a decent fragrance. This one could easily be yours.
Let me know what you guys think of this.
