Today I am writing a quick review of the TOPPCOCK Mahogany Musk Soap, which I have used for the last few days. I haven’t heard much about this company, but with a name like TOPPCOCK, one might suspect a tongue-in-cheek approach to their marketing strategy.
They do appear to have different versions of this soap and many other men’s grooming products that may be worth a try. They also have a fascinating blog which might raise a few eyebrows, but for now, let us talk about the soap.
Where to buy
Quite recently, my wife very thoughtfully bought me a bundle of different men’s soaps for my birthday, and this was one of them. I am told it was purchased online for around £10.00, not cheap at all for a bar of soap, so I did have slightly higher expectations than usual.
As far as I can tell, this is an American-based company, so if you live there, you’ll probably be able to pick this up at your local Walmart (at a much lower price). As for me or anyone else living in other parts of the world, it will have to be good old Amazon for now.
Appearance
I like the overall presentation and appearance; It is packaged well enough to make it seem that it is not your average grocery store rubbish. The bar (which has the shape of a square block) does have a masculine feel to it, and the texture reminds me of old brick or stone, which is different.
You will be able to smell it straightaway (before you even open the box), which can seem promising, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will perform in the shower, even with a name like that!
Ingredients
Judging by the ingredients, this is not what you would call an ‘all natural’ bar of soap, and it isn’t advertised as such, which is fine by me. They have thrown in some Aloe Vera leaf extract for extra hydration, as well as apricot seed powder for dirt removal. That all sounds nice and dandy, but I guess we can only know if it works by putting it to the test, right?
The first thing I noticed about using this was the grit, which is definitely on the more rugged end of the spectrum. Even though I like this in a soap, it will be too harsh for some, particularly if you have allergies or sensitive skin, so I would bare this in mind if that applies to you.
If you require a good scrub down after a hard day’s graft on a building site, or you’re just covered in grease and dirt for whatever reason, then this could be what you need.

Is the scent manly?
So what about the smell of it? Well, it is advertised as having a woody musk scent which I can pick up on to some extent but not enough to give it that masculine edge I am looking for. I would generally expect these notes to be much stronger, especially for a product exclusively aimed at men. That being said, it doesn’t smell bad and can make for quite a pleasant cleansing experience.
Put it this way, my wife (who tends to stay away from my soap collection) has to my surprise, shown some interest in my TOPCOCK. According to her, it was a bit rough around the edges but still somewhat satisfying nonetheless, and I, for one, will not argue with that.
I noticed that it shares some of the characteristics of the Imperial Leather soap in terms of the smell and the squeaky clean feeling at the end. Although the scent isn’t what I would describe as manly, I do love the squeaky clean feeling at the end; I mean, who doesn’t?

Conclusion
I have still got quite a bit left to go on this bar, but I would estimate it will last for around a month with daily usage, which is OK I guess. As far as quality and value for money are concerned, I would say it isn’t bad; I wish the smell were a bit more on the masculine side. I also would have preferred the scent to have lingered on for a bit more post-shower, and for those reasons, I probably wouldn’t repurchase it.
These are my opinions, so do let me know what you think if you have tried this, I am always interested to hear your thoughts.
