Greetings, gentlemen.
This week marks the final instalment in my Creed mini-series (at least for now), and as the saying goes, I’ve saved the best for last. I’ve been wearing one of my all-time favourite fragrances—not just from Creed, but period: Bois du Portugal.
So, what’s the deal with this one?
Released in 1987 and composed by Olivier Creed himself, Bois du Portugal is something of a hidden gem in the Creed lineup. It doesn’t get the hype of heavy-hitters like Aventus or Green Irish Tweed, but for those in the know—especially fans of classic, masculine scents—it’s a treasure.
Officially, it’s listed as an oriental fragrance for men. Personally, I’d argue it leans more toward an aromatic fougère. Yes, there are spices, but not quite enough to land it fully in oriental territory. Just my take, of course—some might disagree.
If you’re unfamiliar with Creed, here’s the quick version: luxury perfumery at its finest. They’re known for using top-tier, often rare ingredients—lavish, refined, and priced accordingly. Not every release is a home run, but when they get it right? They nail it.
So, what makes Bois du Portugal special? Let’s break it down: scent, performance, when to wear it—and most importantly, whether it’s worth your hard-earned cash.
Appearance
Creed sticks to a fairly uniform bottle design, and Bois du Portugal follows suit. Personally, I love it. It’s sophisticated, understated, and has that masculine elegance that feels right at home on any man’s shelf.
Color scheme? A classy mix of green and gold (my personal favourite). It almost looks like something you’d find in King Charles III’s fragrance cabinet—if he has one. And honestly, it smells like something he should wear.
Pricing
No surprises here—this isn’t budget juice. Like all Creed fragrances, it’s in the high-end bracket.
Is it worth it? For me? Absolutely. This fragrance is right up my alley: rich, timeless, and a total masterpiece. But if you’re not into that old-school, classic vibe, it might not hit for you. Prefer something modern? Go Aventus. Want a middle ground? Green Irish Tweed balances classic and contemporary beautifully.
Bottom line: horses for courses.
When it comes to getting the best deal, your best bet is almost always the discounters — especially when they’re running coupon codes. And the one that’s never let me down is FragranceX.
They ship worldwide, they only deal in authentic stock, and they’ve got a solid 30-day return policy, which keeps things risk-free.
Prices do move around (sometimes daily, especially during holiday sales), so it’s always worth checking the current deal. 👇

The note breakdown
Top Notes – Bergamot
Middle Notes – Lavender
Base Notes – Sandalwood, Cedar, Vetiver
The Scent
Right from the first spray, Bois du Portugal makes it clear—this is a fragrance for grown men. No playfulness, no sugar-coated sweetness. It opens with sharp citrus—lime and bergamot—that’s bright but not flashy. There’s a quiet herbaceous thread in the background, adding subtle depth.
Then comes the richness. Bois du Portugal smells like it’s been aged—like a bottle of vintage wine or a leather-bound book. It has that old-world charm that feels comforting and distinguished.
As it dries down, lavender and soft woods take over with a whisper of spice. That vintage “dusty bookshelf” vibe lingers—but not in a musty way. More like a library full of stories and secrets. Refined. Timeless. Utterly captivating.

Masculinity
This fragrance doesn’t just walk into a room—it owns it.
It smells like a firm handshake, a weathered leather armchair, and life advice that starts with, “Back in my day…”—total dad energy. But not just any dad—legendary dad.
People say Frank Sinatra wore this. Can I prove it? Nope. But if a scent could wear a tuxedo on a Tuesday and order a martini without blinking, it’d be this one.
Old-school charm. Cary Grant cool. Bogart grit. Brando edge. Smells like someone who keeps promises and probably has a favorite hat.
Performance
The performance of Bois du Portugal is excellent. Just one or two sprays is more than enough—it’s bold, confident, and has presence. Overapplying this is like yelling in a quiet room: unnecessary and overwhelming.
Longevity is solid—it’ll stick around all day. Projection? Just beyond arm’s length. You’ll be noticed, but you won’t be choking anyone out. It’s well-mannered strength.

If you’d prefer to sample it first, these are my two favourite
and most reliable places to get authentic decants:

When and Where?
Technically a year-rounder, but I think it really shines in spring and fall—particularly in the evening.
It leans formal. Weddings, classy dinners, anywhere that doesn’t involve shorts and sandals. If your outfit includes a collar and your plans include making a solid impression, you’re in the right zone.
For younger guys, it might feel a bit too “grown up.” Like wearing a blazer to brunch. But if you’ve got the confidence—or just like smelling like a man who knows what he’s about—do it.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Incredibly refined, old-school masculine scent
- Great longevity and projection without being overpowering
- Elegant bottle and presentation
- Ideal for formal occasions and cooler weather
- Unique in a market full of trendy clones
Cons
- High price point—not for budget-conscious buyers
- Not ideal for younger guys or fans of sweet/fruity scents
- Can come across as dated if you’re not into the vintage style
- Hard to blind buy—must be sampled first
Final Thoughts
So there you have it, gentlemen. I absolutely love this fragrance. Would I recommend it? Without question—but only if you’re into that classic, refined, masculine vibe. If you’re after something trendy or modern, look elsewhere.
And yes—the price is serious. This is an investment piece. Don’t blind buy. Sample it. Wear it. Live with it. Let it speak to you.

Just ordered it yesterday. So curious if it still has that beast mode presence when I first smelled it. I was too young to wear it in 2014, but now I am quite confident (mid thirties). This is gonna be gooood 😎
