This is part two of my mini Creed series. With Aventus now out of the way (check out that review here, I’m diving into one of my personal favourites from the house: Green Irish Tweed.
A Bit of Background
Released in 1985, Green Irish Tweed was crafted by Olivier Creed in collaboration with Pierre Bourdon. It falls under the woody-floral category and is often hailed as the epitome of a gentleman’s fragrance—and I can personally vouch for that.
I absolutely love this scent (no surprise if you’ve been here before), but I’ll be honest—it’s not for everyone. It leans a bit old-school, and that’s something we’ll unpack shortly.
If you’re not familiar with Creed, let me just say: this is luxury perfumery. They use some of the most premium ingredients in the game—lavish, rare, and yes, very expensive. Not every Creed release is a must-buy, but when they hit? They really hit.
Presentation
For a fragrance called “Green Irish Tweed,” you’d think the bottle would be, well… green. But it’s actually black, sleek—and surprisingly modern for something released in the ‘80s. The green, I suppose, lives in the scent—and in the name.
As with most Creed fragrances, the presentation is clean, classic, and confident. No flash or gimmicks, just refined masculinity in a bottle.
Pricing
Let’s not sugarcoat it—Green Irish Tweed is expensive. Creed is a premium brand, and this one comes with a premium price tag. But here’s the thing: it’s worth it… if this scent profile is your kind of vibe.
I’m a sucker for woody-floral fragrances, and this one nails it. But if you’re more into fresh, musky, or fruity scents, you might want to lean toward something like Aventus instead.
Bottom line: try before you buy. At this price, blind buying is a gamble—even if I think it’s incredible.

First Impressions
Right off the bat, you’re hit with a fresh, bright citrus accord. But don’t expect a typical summertime lemon bomb—this is more elegant. The floral twist of violet and iris adds depth, giving it that “spring in a bottle” quality. No wonder it’s been called the king of spring.
There’s no sweetness here, and that’s important. Despite the presence of iris, it’s not powdery or overly soft. It’s green, clean, and incredibly refined—like walking through an Irish countryside just after it rains.
The Dry-Down
In the base, Creed uses ambergris (a signature ingredient of theirs) along with subtle woods to create a smooth, lingering dry-down. It doesn’t go aquatic or oceanic like many modern fresh scents—it stays firmly grounded in greenery and class.
If you’ve smelled Davidoff Cool Water, you’ll catch a faint resemblance (Bourdon worked on both), but make no mistake: Green Irish Tweed is the more sophisticated, layered, and well-rounded creation. That’s what you’re paying for.
Is It Masculine?
Absolutely. This is the scent of a well-dressed, self-assured man. Not brash or loud, but confident, elegant, and quietly powerful. I’ve heard it was worn by Pierce Brosnan and Clint Eastwood—and honestly, it fits them both to a tee.

Performance
Green Irish Tweed doesn’t disappoint in the performance department. Thanks to the ambergris, it clings to the skin nicely and gives a solid 6–8 hours of wear. That’s actually impressive for a fresh scent.
Projection is moderate—about an arm’s length—but that’s a good thing. This isn’t meant to fill a room. It’s meant to draw people in. Subtle, sophisticated, and perfectly balanced.
When to Wear It
This is one of those unicorn scents that works year-round, but it shines brightest in the transition from spring to summer.
I call it an “in-between” fragrance—perfect for mild weather when you want something fresh, but not too light or aquatic. You could wear it casually or formally, day or night, and it would never feel out of place.
Compliments
Easily one of my top 5 most complimented fragrances. There’s a universal appeal here that just works—even for people who aren’t usually into scents.
If you enjoy the occasional “you smell great” (and who doesn’t?), this one delivers.

Final Thoughts
So would I recommend Green Irish Tweed? Without hesitation.
That said, it’s not a modern scent in the way something like Dior Sauvage or Bleu de Chanel is. And it’s not vintage barbershop either. It sits beautifully in the middle—timeless, refined, and truly one-of-a-kind.
If you’re after something contemporary and trendy, Aventus might be more your speed. But if you’re the kind of guy who likes sharp tailoring, classic style, and quiet confidence, Green Irish Tweed is absolutely worth trying.
Just don’t blind buy it. Sample it first. Then decide if this classic deserves a place on your shelf. It certainly does on mine.
