Greetings, gentlemen; I’ve been testing Fuel for Life Homme by Diesel for the past week. Diesel is a brand I’ve always associated with the younger man, especially when it comes to its fragrance line. The last Diesel scent I delved into was Only The Brave, a go-to for the younger generation. But what about this one?

Fuel for Life (FFL) was released in 2007, a relatively modern scent compared with some of the fragrances in my collection. So, my fragrance-loving friends, let me get to the burning question on your mind: what unique elements does this fragrance bring to the table, and is it still worth your hard-earned dosh? 

Pricing

Although it’s not far off, this fragrance doesn’t quite make the ‘cheapie’ category. The price is pretty much ‘bang on the nose ‘, meaning it’s right in line with what you would expect to pay for a fragrance of this quality, so I don’t have any complaints in this area.

While it may not be as popular as some of Diesel’s newer releases, Fuel for Life Homme by Diesel still offers a good return on your investment. You can check out the latest version of this fragrance below on Amazon and you might be surprised by the current price!

Appearance and Presentation 

I have never been much of a fan of Diesel bottle designs. The iconic fist bottle of Only the Brave strikes me as somewhat Junenivlle, but hey, that’s just me.

That said, I like the Diesel Fuel for Life design. It’s a glass bottle that appears to be in a brown wallet/sachel-type holder. It reminds me of something a Western cowboy would put his flask in (I think that was the look they were going for). Nevertheless, it looks cool and manly, and we like that kind of thing around here.

So far, so good. Let’s move on.

The Note Breakdown

Top Notes – Anise, Grapefruit

Middle Notes – Raspberry, Lavender

Base Notes – Woodsy Notes, Heliotrope

Thoughts about the scent

The opening is sweet and fruity, with some florals in the middle, exuding a youthful modernistic appeal. The anise stands out and blends well with the lavender and fruity elements. This lovely, refreshing combination of notes would suit the younger man well, without a doubt.

Is this a synthetic fragrance? Well, yes, of course, it is, particularly with its harsh opening, but it’s still a good one, unlike some of the others with a somewhat artificial, chemical-like scent that some might associate with cleaning products. There’s no need to worry about that here.

While the fragrance’s youthful appeal may not be the best fit for those over 30, it’s a perfect choice for teenagers and those in their 20s. Its lack of depth and complexity may not suit a mature audience, but it’s an excellent option for younger guys for sure.

Performance

The performance of this fragrance on my skin was below average, which surprised me because Diesel fragrances typically hold up in this area. You can expect around 1 hour of moderate projection with about 2-3 hours of longevity before it more or less becomes completely undetectable. Not that great, really.

If you really dig this fragrance, you’ll need to top it up throughout the day if you want people to continue smelling it for a reasonable amount of time.

When and where?

This fragrance is generally an all-arounder suitable for all seasons, occasions, and times of day. You are likely to avoid running into too much trouble with it.

It would be particularly well suited for casual daywear or work. Although you could wear it in the evening, there are much better options for that setting. If you’re heading to the club, then forget it. Much stronger colognes will simply drown it out, and nobody will be able to pick up on it.

Compliments?

This is the sort of fragrance that will garner a lot of positive attention from across the board, so if that’s what you’re looking for, you might want to consider Fuel for Life seriously. It’s a confidence booster in a bottle.

The main issue here, however, is the performance, so you must be prepared to top up throughout the day to ensure the people around you notice you’re wearing it. Otherwise, there won’t be any compliments, of course.

Should you buy?

So, guys, here’s the deal: This is a great-smelling, versatile, reasonably-priced fragrance. It ticks many boxes in most situations and will get you noticed for the right reason.

If it weren’t for the performance issue, I would say it is a solid buy, especially if you are more youthful than I am. The performance is not bad enough to rule out a purchase, but don’t expect too much, is all I am saying.
