Greetings! For the last week, I have been wearing Eros by Versace EDT, one of today’s most sought-after fragrances. It’s considered an aromatic fougere, launched in 2012 by perfumer Aurelien Guichard. It has earned its place in the “club banger” category for its youthful, attention-grabbing qualities. Frankly, it’s not a fragrance I would naturally gravitate towards, but this blog isn’t about me; it’s about YOU, fine gentleman.

Now then, let’s address the question that’s on your mind: Is Eros by Versace EDT a fragrance worth your investment? In this article, I’ll discuss my thoughts on the original and offer some brief insights into its flankers.

Let’s get into it…

Price and where to buy

A 100ml bottle of this fragrance costs around £60, a value that, in my view, is pretty reasonable considering what you’re getting. Its popularity, with an impressive number of units sold on Amazon, speaks for itself. However, it’s important to note that this fragrance will not be for everyone, especially if you’re a little older. I encourage you to read the full review before pulling the trigger.

There isn’t much of a price difference between the 100ml and 50ml, which is good news if you like this and tend to apply a little more than the average Joe.

When it comes to getting the best deal, your best bet is almost always the discounters — especially when they’re running coupon codes. And the one that’s never let me down is FragranceX.

They ship worldwide, they only deal in authentic stock, and they’ve got a solid 30-day return policy, which keeps things risk-free.

Prices do move around (sometimes daily, especially during holiday sales), so it’s always worth checking the current deal. 👇

Appearance and presentation

The bottle looks interesting, and its colour may lead you (as it did me) to initially mistake it for an aquatic fragrance, but it’s not.

The design, along with the name, draws inspiration from Greek mythology, featuring what appears to be a symbol of the head of Medusa on the front. For those who don’t know, Medusa was the one who had snakes for hair and whose appearance was so hideous she was able to turn men to stone just by looking at them. Thankfully, the fragrance has a slightly more desired effect.

The pattern on the box, known as a “meander,” also evokes traditional Greek artwork or an ancient building, adding to the overall theme.

My thoughts on the scent

Clearly, this is a fragrance for the younger man; there is absolutely no question about that. It’s very sweet and potent, with prominent fresh green apple notes in the opening. It has a woody, ambery mid and a bucket load of vanilla in the base, all the quintessential components you would expect to find in a clubbing scent.

It has that familiar bubblegum note, similar to others in this category, like Paco Rabanne’s 1 Million (another clubbing king), but less cloying and slightly more sophisticated. I find Eros somewhat more tolerable than some of its other counterparts.

Eros was crafted to make a statement and get you noticed for all the right reasons, and it delivers on that promise. Its reputation as a compliment magnet is well-known, and I can personally vouch for its accuracy.

While it may not be the most groundbreaking fragrance I’ve encountered, it certainly has its charm. If you value receiving compliments, it won’t disappoint, as it generally garners positive reactions wherever you go. Remember, moderation is key- don’t overdo it with the sprays, and you’ll be fine. The force is strong with this one.

🔥NEW FRAGRANCE!

OLD SCHOOL — Eau de Toilette

Classic masculinity. Zero nonsense.
A clean, barbershop-inspired fragrance from the days when men walked out of the bathroom smelling like aftershave — not “Ocean Breeze Watermelon Mist.”

Built to showcase Vetiver at its best, Old School opens with bright blended citrus, moves into subtle spice, and settles into a warm mix of woods and earthy confidence.

A sharp, masculine, timeless scent that never goes out of style.

Price: £45

Performance and reformulations

I have found the performance above average, lasting all day on my skin. It will project for the majority of that, with most people within about an arm’s length being able to pick up on it. There are no issues in this area, as far as I’m concerned.

There has been an ongoing discussion in the fragrance community about a possible reformulation since its initial release over 12 years ago. While I can’t say for sure, I lean towards the belief that it has, as it’s no longer as potent as it once was. However, this shouldn’t be a cause for concern. The fragrance still retains its strength and essence, staying more or less faithful to the original.

When to wear

Generally speaking, you could wear it any season. As it does have that warm sweetness in the middle, I think it would perform exceptionally well in colder seasons. It is still fresh enough to wear in the warm weather, though I would suggest better options exist for that time of year.

Where to wear?

While it’s true that this fragrance is primarily a club/party scent, it’s not limited to just that. If you’re willing to go a little easier on the sprays, it can transform into a versatile all-rounder that will work in various other settings. Despite my reservations, I’ve even tested it in the office, and to my surprise, it was a hit.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Great clubbing or night-out fragrance
  • Compliment magnet
  • Fantastic performance
  • Versatile
  • It can be worn all year round
  • Attention grabber
  • It works well as a signature scent
  • The price is reasonable

Cons

  • It could be too sweet and sickening for some
  • I would not recommend it for older guys
  • It could be too loud and offensive if you overspray

Flankers

Unlike many other designer houses, it would seem they haven’t gone overboard with the flankers, which is a good thing. This surprised me, especially as Eros is arguably Versace’s flagship fragrance line, but there you go. Here are my thoughts on what they have to offer.

2018 Eros Flame – Flame wasn’t well received when it was first released, and perhaps it is the most overlooked of the bunch. They switch up the apple top notes with bright citruses such as orange.

It still has the original DNA to some degree, with the sweetness of the vanilla being there, but it’s more woody and spicy to my nose. The performance is fantastic, as with all of the fragrances in the Eros lineup. I like this one, and I think it’s a pretty decent fragrance, all things considered.

2020 Eros EDP – The EDP is very similar to the EDT, even indistinguishable to some people. I would say they have essentially taken the EDT and added a little more depth to it. It’s smoother, emphasising the woods and leather, without so much of that fresh green pop.

It would be better suited for older, middle-aged guys who were fans of the EDT in their younger days and are now looking for something more mature. It’s my favourite of the flankers, and I prefer it to the original as it has the best of both worlds, in my opinion. It’s the “Goldilocks” of the lineup if you will.

2021 Eros Parfum is the latest and most expensive addition to the lineup. This version departs from the original’s youthful, sweet, bubblegum notes, focusing more on warmth and depth with various resins added to the mid.

In my view, it’s a significant deviation from the original DNA to the point where I question its necessity. If you’re considering a fragrance like Eros, you’d likely want to experience at least some of the bold playfulness of the original, which is lacking here.

Should you buy?

One crucial factor to consider here is your age. Eros EDT is the most versatile in the lineup and could easily pass as an all-around signature scent for a guy in his 20s. If that applies to you and you like fragrances on the sweeter end of the spectrum, I would say yes.

If you’re 30 or older, I would opt for the EDP because it’s a little more mature while still retaining some of the fun of the original EDT.

Whichever one you choose, you can be assured that you’ll get a decent-quality product that is well-composed and good value for money. Let me know your thoughts and experiences with this one in the comments below.
