It’s time for another soap bar review; I’ll admit it has been a while. I have seen these Bare Bars cropping on my Google and Instagram feeds more frequently over the last few weeks, so it’s about time I gave one of them a try, and I’m glad I did. It looks like the company has done pretty well for itself, but not yet quite up there with your Duke Cannon or Dr Squatch (don’t get me started)

One of their main selling points is surprise, surprise, the ingredients, as they claim to be all-natural. They were fed up with the usual grocery store products using harsh chemicals and devised a better solution. Yes, we’ve heard it all before, but are the soaps any good and worth the money? Here’s what I’ve found.

Where to buy and price

The only legitimate place to buy this product is directly from their website, which I did. The bars cost a reasonable £7.00 each plus shipping, and they also offer subscriptions and bundles that may be worth a look if you get on with these.

In addition to the bars, they also have other men’s grooming products such as deodorants, hair care and other random merchandise to do with the whole bear thing. I have no doubt these products are of decent quality, and I will aim to try some in the future. I will, of course, let you know how I get on!

Presentation

So I like the box and presentation; it has a natural woodland look and feel. It looks like something that would appeal to someone of the younger generation who enjoys camping, hiking, and other things of that sort. I say the younger generation as I am not sure about the cartoon bear on the front; it seems a bit juvenile to me, but there you go.

The bar itself has a natural, rugged texture to it with no design or logos at all. I like it, although it looks small, and I’ll come on to that in a bit.

Ingredients

For those interested, I have listed the ingredients below.

Sodium Olivate (Olive Oil), Sodium Palmate (RSPO Sustainable Palm Oil), Sodium Cocoate (Coconut Oil), Aqua (Water), Glycerin (Natural Glycerin), Avena Sativa (Organic Oatmeal), Parfum (Essential Oils), Sodium Cocoa Butterate (Cocoa Butter), Sodium Castorate (Caster Oil), Activated Charcoal (Cosmetic Safe Charcoal), Citral, Limonene, Linalool* *Allergen Declarations

Are the ingredients natural?

Yes, they are, according to them. This may be good news for you, particularly if you have sensitive skin. They are also handcrafted and sustainable, making them easier on the environment, which is also good.

A video on the website shows you how this stuff is made, which is a nice touch.

and most reliable places to get authentic decants:

Special features?

Other than cleaning you and making you smell nice, it doesn’t look like it.

What does it smell like

Pine is one of my favourite notes in any scented product if done well, and this soap bar does not fall short. It smells fresh and natural, unlike the nasty ones full of chemicals you can buy from the supermarket. It has a sharp and herbaceous scent that will make you want to take a cold shower in the woods. I like it, and they have put effort into sourcing the right ingredients.

This product would layer nicely with a green, botanical fragrance such as Polo Green, Quorum or CK Eternity.

Is it manly?

Pine is widely considered a masculine scent, and this soap hits the nail on the head. Similar to other scents like mint, it has a calming and relaxing effect that will have you feeling like a new man after your shower. This is true because I actually said that after my shower, which is always a good sign.

Performance

The scent lasts long after your shower on your skin and in the bathroom, which is a huge plus. If my soap bar smells good, I want the smell to last as long as possible.

It doesn’t disappoint when it comes to cleaning either, which is, after all, its primary function. It lathers well and doesn’t leave your skin feeling dry and tight. If you usually shower at night before bed (as many hard-working men like myself do), you will sleep like a baby after using this.

How long does it last

Now my only complaint is the size as it’s too small and only lasts a couple of weeks, maybe three if you’re lucky. Other brands, such as Duke Cannon’s big-ass brick, blow this out of the water in terms of size and bang for the buck. Check out my review of their gun smoke soap here for more on that.

Come on, guys, increasing the product’s size is not an unreasonable ask, given the price.

Conclusion

I like what these guys are doing, and although there is room for improvement, the product is of good quality, and I give it an official ‘The Smell of Man’ approval. Give it a shot; I don’t think you will be disappointed. Let me know your thoughts if you have tried some of the other ones, as I am always interested to hear from you.
