Afternoon Gentlemen; I hope you are having a fantastic week. Today I am talking about Calvin Klein Eternity for Men Eau De Toilette, a timeless and forgotten classic fragrance from the 90s that deserves a mention on this blog. This has been a staple of mine for some time now, and I am due another purchase soon as I have used an entire bottle over about two years.

Calvin Klein Eternity for Men Eau De Toilette was huge back in its day; every man and his dog had this bottle for a good reason. It was quality stuff, and the price was reasonable.

How does it compare to modern standards, and how would it suit today’s man? Well, here’s what I have found.

Appearance

The presentation is simple and elegant (much like the fragrance itself), something very typical of the CK line. It’s nothing special, and the silver cap feels a little cheap and tacky, but you get what you pay for here. Don’t let that put you off, and remember, never judge a fragrance by its bottle! Unless it’s Paco Rabanne 1 Million, which looks as bad as it smells.

Having said all that, the bottle’s design evokes a nostalgic sense of the 90s, which will be appreciated by those who remember this era.

I have read on other sites that the bottle is inspired by “The timeless values of the romantic individual”, whatever that is supposed to mean. I don’t know about timeless values, but maybe my wife would describe me as a romantic individual (sometimes).

Calvin Klein Eternity for Men Eau De Toilette or Eau De Parfum?

The original version of Calvin Klein Eternity for Men and the one I am talking about is an Eau De Toilette. However, for those who don’t know, Calvin Klein has recently released a more concentrated Eau de Parfum version of this. The two versions have similarities, although the Eau De Parfum is a fragrance in its own right, being much more green and dense than its Eau De Toilette counterpart.

Price and where to buy?

Despite being an older fragrance far from as popular as it once was, Calvin Klein Eternity for Men Eau De Toilette is still relatively easy to find in-store and online. One of the great things about it is it’s inexpensive and fantastic value for money. If you haven’t tried it before, you could afford to throw it in your basket as a blind buy at that price.

You can easily pick up a 100ml bottle in your local store for a reasonable price, the EDP version being slightly higher.

When it comes to getting the best deal, your best bet is almost always the discounters — especially when they’re running coupon codes. And the one that’s never let me down is FragranceX.

They ship worldwide, they only deal in authentic stock, and they’ve got a solid 30-day return policy, which keeps things risk-free.

Prices do move around (sometimes daily, especially during holiday sales), so it’s always worth checking the current deal. 👇

The notes

Top Notes – Lavender, Lemon, Bergamot, Mandarin Orange

Middle Notes – Sage, Juniper Berries, Basil, Geranium, Coriander, Jasmine, Orange Blossom, Lily-of-the-Valley, Lily

Base Notes – Sandalwood, Vetiver, Musk, Brazilian Rosewood, Amber

My thoughts about the notes

As you can see from the notes, a few refreshing green botanicals, such as geranium, basil and sage, are in there, typical of fragrances of this era. However, a couple of things to remember are it is heavy on the lavender top notes, so you have to like this kind of thing to enjoy it. Secondly, the Lavender top note leads to a very herbal and woodsy cedar base.

I say woodsy cedar base because that’s what it smells like to me, but I can’t see cedar in the note list for some reason. Perhaps that is a new woody note added in a reformulation. Overall, I think it’s more herbal than anything else, so again, you have to like that kind of thing.

Calvin Klein Eternity for Men Eau De Toilette is an aromatic fougère; it’s sweet with plenty of green notes and has a fresh masculine barbershop vibe. I’ve heard some say it is old-fashioned, although, despite being over 30 years old, it has aged well and could give today’s man a good run for his money. If you remember the 90s well as I do, there’s no denying it has a general nostalgic appeal.

My general thoughts about this fragrance

Calvin Klein Eternity for Men Eau De Toilette is a straightforward, fresh-out-of-the-shower scent that is hard not to like in many ways. It is a crowd-pleaser, and it will attract the odd compliment or two. It’s well suited to a modern man from 25 and onwards looking for a safe bet. As I’ve said many times before, you don’t need to break the bank to smell great; this proves that.

A barbershop fougère is a good place to start if you want something with a crisp freshness that is masculine and will satisfy you. On that note (no pun intended), another great example is the Clubman Pinaud Aftershave Lotion, to which I have a dedicated page, which you can read about here.

Performance

The performance of Calvin Klein Eternity for Men Eau De Toilette is okay, and you could do a lot worse. You will get around 6 hours out of it, with a decent projection for about 3-4 before it becomes a skin scent. In my experience, fragrances of this genre don’t perform that well and tend to stay close to the skin, so I am happy with it. It’s a moderate-performing fragrance, not a warm powerhouse like CK Obsession.

Application

4-5 sprays should do it; you can top up throughout the day if needed. Calvin Klein Eternity for Men Eau De Toilette is an inoffensive fragrance, unlikely to cause too much of a disturbance, even with a few extra sprays.

When to wear it

It’s generally considered to be an all-rounder. The timeless ideals of the original fougère scent will usually work any time of year, which makes them great signature scents. That said, I avoid sweeter fragrances in the warm weather and typically opt for something with more of an aquatic essence, like Polo Blue or Aqua di Gio.

The sweetness of Eternity isn’t enough for it to get cloying, and it will still work in the summer, but there are better options for that time of year, in my opinion. I would wear this primarily in the spring and autumn for the best results.

Where to wear it

Again this is in an all-rounder and will work for any scenario. It’s not the most daring scent you will ever put your nose to, but a great little everyday office scent you could use regularly without much thought. You can’t go wrong with this.

Conclusion and final thoughts

So there you have it, a classic fragrance with a masculine aromatic heart that still holds up well today, even for the modern man. I am not a huge fan of Calvin Klein fragrances, although I’ve ended up with a few in my collection. This is the best fragrance they offer, and I recommend you throw it in your basket the next time you are at a discount store, especially at that price.

It’s nothing out of the ordinary and may lack a distinctive expression for some, but it’s quite decent and great value for money. If you have tried this, let me know what you think in the comments, as I am always interested to hear your thoughts.
