So, to follow from last week when I wrote about Polo Red Parfum, today, I wanted to talk about its aquatic counterpart, Ralph Lauren Polo Blue Eau De Parfum.
This needs to be clarified. Polo Blue has a few different versions, which follow a similar pattern to the Red, and I have listed them below.
– Ralph Lauren Polo Blue Eau De Toilette
– Ralph Lauren Polo Blue Eau De Parfum (the one I am reviewing.)
– Ralph Lauren Polo Blue Parfum
There was a time when you could only get the EDT, but it would seem Ralph Lauren wanted to mix it up and give customers more variety.
As you would expect, the “Parfum” version is the most concentrated and, thus, the most powerful, with the Eau De Toilette being the weakest. Now that we have that cleared up let’s get into the review.
Ralph Lauren Polo Blue Eau De Parfum is a fresh oceanic men’s perfume produced by Carlos Beniam, also the nose behind my beloved Polo Green. For those interested, I have a separate article on Polo Green, which is one unique fragrance and the best of the Polo series, in my opinion. You can read it here.
Appearance
The overall presentation is OK but not as good as the other versions. I like the colour, but the bottle feels a tad on the cheap and tacky side, which could be better considering the asking price. I much preferred the design of the original EDT versions, but that’s just me.
Where to buy?
You can find this stuff in the usual places without much issue, as it’s one of the more popular versions you can buy. It’s not cheap; expect to pay anywhere in the range of £70 – £100 for this stuff. At that price, you can safely say this isn’t a blind buy. Try it before you purchase, or at least read a few more reviews.
When it comes to getting the best deal, your best bet is almost always the discounters — especially when they’re running coupon codes. And the one that’s never let me down is FragranceX.
They ship worldwide, they only deal in authentic stock, and they’ve got a solid 30-day return policy, which keeps things risk-free.
Prices do move around (sometimes daily, especially during holiday sales), so it’s always worth checking the current deal. 👇

The Notes
Top Notes – Sea Notes, Bergamot, Cardamom
Middle Notes – Basil, Verbena, Clary Sage, Orris
Base Notes – Suede, Vetiver, Woodsy Notes
My thoughts on the notes
Ralph Lauren Polo Blue Eau De Parfum has another simple but unique array of notes, which are initially fresh and sharp with an aromatic heart. The marine and woodsy notes blend well with a sweet undertone, and it’s hard not to like it. It’s not the most unique fragrance you will ever put your nose to, but if you are looking for a safe crowd-pleaser, this will do the job.
The invigorating burst of notes often gets compared to Aqua di Gio, and I can somewhat see it. Still, Aqua di Gio is of superior quality and performs better.
Ralph Lauren Polo Blue Eau De Parfum is one of those generic scents that smell good, and that’s about all there is to say. It’s your dad’s signature scent with a consistent freshness and masculine vibe.

How does it compare with the original Eau de Toilette version?
The Eau de Parfum is better quality, in my opinion. The oceanic suede accord gives it a certain energy and depth that the Eau de Toilette lacks. The Eau de Toilette is much lighter, with a more watery melon accord.
Performance
Unfortunately, one of the things that let this fragrance down is the performance, which is surprising as this is an Eau de Parfum. It’s not very long-lasting, with only around 4-5 hours of projection at best. I would expect much more than that for a fragrance of this price and stature.
Want to try this fragrance on your skin?
If you’d prefer to sample it first, these are my two favourite
and most reliable places to get authentic decants:

Application
You can get away with more than the usual 2-3 sprays on this, as it is not a particularly powerful fragrance. I would use around 5-6 sprays for decent projection, which could be better, but that’s what you can realistically expect with this.
When to wear it
On the upside, this fragrance can be worn any time of year, which makes it perfect for a signature scent. As you can imagine, it is ideal for the sun and blue sky with its fresh, cooling appeal.
Where to wear it
Again this is an all-rounder; if you’re looking for a convenient everyday scent that will work for any scenario (including the office), this could be ideal.
Final thoughts
So there you have it, folks, an average rating from me. It’s a safe and clean fragrance that is versatile but too generic for my liking. The Polo Red will be your better option if you want something with a bit more warmth. If you’ve tried Polo Blue, let me know your thoughts. Also, what is your favourite Polo fragrance?
