Try this, Mr Bond.

So recently, I picked the James Bond 007 fragrance for men by Eon Productions, and I am glad I did, as I was pleasantly surprised by what I found. Before all the fragrance snobs jump out of their chairs, I know the concept is a bit on the gimmicky side, but let’s chill and have some fun, OK?

This fragrance has actually been around for a while now, being released in 2012 and produced by perfumer Sonia Constant (also the nose behind Montblanc Emblem and, I believe, some of the Burberry Fragrances)

Where to buy?

This is easily sourced and available in most perfume stores and online. I picked it up from good old Beauty Base as a complete blind buy. I went in specifically to buy a new bottle of Lapidus Pour Homme but ended up walking out with this, too, after my son (a big James Bond fan) pointed it out to me.

When it comes to getting the best deal, your best bet is almost always the discounters — especially when they’re running coupon codes. And the one that’s never let me down is FragranceX.

They ship worldwide, they only deal in authentic stock, and they’ve got a solid 30-day return policy, which keeps things risk-free.

Prices do move around (sometimes daily, especially during holiday sales), so it’s always worth checking the current deal. 👇

Presentation

The presentation is cool and Bond-like; it looks like something that wouldn’t look out of place in a Casino Royale scene. You have to twist the sprayer for it to pop up, like one of the gadgets he uses in the films, which is a nice touch.

The scent

Top Notes – Apple, Bergamot, Geranium

Middle Notes – Lavender, Cardamom, Rose

Base Notes – Sandalwood, Patchouli, Vetiver, Moss

A very simple fragrance, as you can see from the notes. It’s your typical ‘out-of-the-shower scent’ that is very hard not to like in some ways, although it is a little synthetic. The apple and lavender notes stand out from the opening to the dry down, giving it a fresh and clean vibe.

Is this something that Bond would have worn? Well, I can’t imagine him wearing an £8.00 fragrance for some reason, but that’s just me (not to say anything would be wrong with that, of course).

I think Floris No. 89 would have been more suited to a 1960s Bond, which was also a favourite of Sir Ian Flemming. Perhaps something like Tom Ford Oud Wood for a modern-day Daniel Craig era. Let me know what you guys think.

It’s not the most exciting fragrance to my nose, but it is still enjoyable, and you get what you pay for here, so don’t expect too much.

Is it manly?

Yes, it is to some extent, but definitely on the more modern end of the spectrum and would be well-suited to a younger guy in his 20s or 30s.

My wife loves this stuff on me so much that she has decided to wear it herself around the house casually. Perhaps she is hinting for me to wear more fragrances like this, as I have so many she doesn’t like.

Performance

Although this is a moderate fragrance, the performance (to my surprise) isn’t bad at all. You can get around 6 hours out of this with 3 – 4 sprays, which will project for most of that. For this reason, I was pleasantly surprised, particularly as it is so challenging to find a fresh scent with decent performance these days.

🔥NEW FRAGRANCE!

OLD SCHOOL — Eau de Toilette

Classic masculinity. Zero nonsense.
A clean, barbershop-inspired fragrance from the days when men walked out of the bathroom smelling like aftershave — not “Ocean Breeze Watermelon Mist.”

Built to showcase Vetiver at its best, Old School opens with bright blended citrus, moves into subtle spice, and settles into a warm mix of woods and earthy confidence.

A sharp, masculine, timeless scent that never goes out of style.

Price: £45

When and where to wear it?

It has been designed to be an all-rounder that will be inoffensive to most people. It’s your perfect safe office scent that can be worn any time of year, day or night. On the downside, it’s too generic and boring to be considered a signature scent. I would wear it now and then to freshen up, but that’s as far as it goes for me.

Final thoughts

So there you have it, 007 in a bottle (well, not quite). For a cheapie, it’s pretty good value for money, all things considered, and I recommend it. It’s not something I will wear regularly, but as a fan of the Bond franchise, it’s an excellent little addition to my collection as a novelty item, if nothing else.
